“I’ve been singing since I was a kid,” says Diana Suk. “I’ve never not been singing.” Diana began writing music during her sophomore year at JMU and finishing songs and other projects when she was a junior. She often collaborates with friends to get beats and help with mastering songs. Her musical influences range from Stevie Wonder, Snoh Aalegra, Mac Ayres, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Ocean, and other notable names in the R&B, jazz, and neo soul genres, to artists such as Rex Orange County, Hippo Campus, Lana Del Rey, and Kacey Musgraves. “So many people make music I resonate with and music I love to sing,” she says.
Diana Suk is a senior member of the JMU School of Theatre and Dance. After graduating from JMU in 2021, she plans to move to Atlanta, Georgia with several friends. Atlanta is the perfect place for her to pursue her dreams in both film and television as well as continue making music. Her dream is to be an actress while making music on the side; “both are equal in my mind, I just think working in theatre, television, and film is steadier believe it or not.”

I read a quote once that said good lyrics don’t describe emotions, they create emotions. Diana’s latest release “Internet” does just that. While there seems to be a stigma surrounding dating apps, “Internet” tells the story of finding love online and just how beautiful it can turn out to be. “Internet” contrasts with Diana’s typical style; it’s “in a genre I normally wouldn’t sing, or in a genre I usually write about.” Through her powerful vocal riffs, writing style, and celebratory pop beat, you can practically feel Diana’s love through the song. “Internet” was a one year anniversary present to her boyfriend she met on Hinge, a popular dating app, in 2019. The song begins with a soft sort of lo-fi beat and opens with the lines, “three little dots typing, wondering what I’m getting into.” The couple’s story progresses as they go on their first date, “talking over dinner, we couldn’t stop and you kissed me before you dropped me off.” Gradually moving into the chorus, the drum track fades away, putting emphasis on Diana’s subtle harmonies. The song swells around Diana’s voice, leading her to belt the phrase “thank God for the internet, ‘cause without it we would’ve never met.” The tune of this modern love story is so infectious, it seems impossible to not sing at the top of your lungs while dancing along.
Diana Suk is beyond talented, passionate, and overwhelmingly kind. I can’t say enough good things about her, so I absolutely recommend checking out her music and showing her some love! You can find her on all streaming platforms. Here are links where you can give her a listen:
